“Yvette Berry is the ACT Deputy Chief Minister, Minister for Education and Early Childhood, Minister for Homes and New Suburbs and Minister for Sport and Recreation
Yvette grew up in Public Housing in West Belconnen. She has raised her two children there and can’t imagine living anywhere else. She is a keen supporter of animal rescue organisations and has two rescue dogs of her own.
Yvette is committed to listening to young people to understand better the unique challenges young people face now and into the future.
During her time as the Minister for Education and Early Childhood she proud to have worked to make education more equitable for children, no matter their background. I introduced free laptops for all public secondary school students and started the Education Equity Fund to help families with the costs of schooling.
As well as introducing free preschool for three-year-olds, saving most families around $1300 a year. And including the rollout out free meals in schools, because kids can’t learn on an empty stomach.”
