Session: Convinced AI Is Necessary, But Unsure How to Proceed?
Subtitle: Feet on the Ground, Eyes on the Horizon: Leading through the AI shift as a middle leader
Speaker: Baden U'Ren, Innovation Strategist & L&D Leader
Artificial intelligence is no longer a future issue. It is already reshaping workplaces, learning, and the capabilities young people will need to thrive. For middle leaders in schools, the challenge is real: how do we sustain the daily work of teaching and learning while also preparing staff and students for a rapidly changing world?
In this session, Baden, an Innovation Strategist and L&D Leader, draws on his experience leading learning and development in a large organisation where 100 percent AI fluency is a strategic priority, alongside the intentional cultivation of human capabilities such as curiosity, collaboration, trust, and the capacity to thrive in uncertainty. He will explore what school leaders can learn from this work and how middle leaders can begin building readiness in their own contexts.
This will be a blended and practical session, combining ideas, reflection, and discussion. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of why AI matters now, where the early movers may already be within their own organisations, and how to begin purposeful, manageable experimentation without waiting for perfect certainty.
