Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to the 2025 academic year. I hope that for those of you who have been on leave have had a restful break.
The Branch Executive are one again very excited about the opportunity to contribute to the work of progressing ACEL as a national and local peak body in the life of our profession.
Our 2025 Branch Executive include Dr Tony Bracken, Tracey Taylor, Nicole Jaggers, Melissa Planton, Maria O’Donnell and Dr Kirk Zwangobani. Each of these educators brings vast experience and a range of interests and leadership skills to the work of ACEL and our Branch.
While we are a small jurisdiction compared to the other states we have a very active membership. The Executive wishes to continue build momentum in ACEL, ACT, increase our membership, and provide cross sectoral opportunities for professional collaboration in research, dialogue and collaboration to enhance the work of our profession during 2025.
In October last year we held a Middle Leaders event facilitated by Daniel Pinchas, General Manager of AITSL at which we hosted over 80 members and guests of ACEL. It was a great success and on behalf of ACEL I wish to thank all who attended and especially Daniel for his wisdom and outstanding contribution to our professional learning series.
We will also hold a number of professional engagements in 2025 including:
- The 2024 Awards Ceremony in March. At this ceremony we will honour the achievements of those colleagues who have won ACT Educational Leadership Awards in 2024 in the following categories:

- Growing in Leadership
- Excellence in Leadership
- ACEL Fellowship
- The 2025 Ministers Breakfast at the National Portrait Gallery. Once we have secured the date with Minister Yvette Berry I will publish and circulate this.
- This year the ACEL National Office have asked that we align our annual awards ceremonies with the National schedule so I will be calling for 2025 awardees in early March. Please reflect on those colleagues, members and non members who you would like to esteem with a nomination when we call for these.
