A huge thank you to all who nominated outstanding educators for our annual ACEL SA Awards. These awards continue to be a highlight of our year. As a sector, we often fall short in recognizing the excellence that exists within our schools. ACEL and its branches play a key role in celebrating the great work that teachers and leaders are doing.
Schools are frequently portrayed as being in crisis in the media. However, ACEL takes pride in shifting this narrative by shining a spotlight on the outstanding contributions of our educators.
We are in the process of determining this year’s award winners and will be announcing them soon. We encourage as many members as possible to attend our Annual Awards Night, which will be held on Tuesday, 17 June, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Sanctuary, Adelaide Zoo.

ACEL SA Hot Topic with Dylan Wiliam
By the time you read this, we will have successfully hosted our first ACEL SA Hot Topic event of the year. We were incredibly fortunate to welcome Dylan Wiliam live in Adelaide. Many of you are likely familiar with his work. Last year I had the pleasure of hearing Dylan talk about his latest book, "Making Room for Impact: A De-implementation Guide for Educators."
Wiliam emphasizes that de-implementation is key to reducing workload, conserving financial resources, and refocusing time and energy on the highest-impact activities. He provides a structured approach to identifying and phasing out educational initiatives that may not be delivering the desired outcomes in our schools.
However, he also acknowledges that de-implementation is challenging, as we are naturally inclined to add rather than remove. If you’d like to explore this concept further, you can find his book along with many other valuable resources at the ACEL Online Bookshop.
Upcoming ACEL SA Hot Topic
We are excited to announce our next Hot Topic, scheduled for Thursday, May 29. Please save the date as we welcome Adrian Cotterell, who will explore the impact of AI in education. More details to come soon!
Enjoy the rest of your term, and if you’re taking a break, we hope it’s a restful one. Thank you for your continued support of ACEL.
