SA Branch News: November 2023

Dear ACEL SA Members,

I am honoured to serve as the ACEL SA State President and as a national Board Member. For those who may not be familiar with me, I currently hold the position of Director of Teaching and Learning at Immanuel College. Working alongside me in the SA Branch, I have the privilege of collaborating with a dedicated team that includes Michael Murphy, Christine Haynes, Julie Tarzia, and Brendan Toohey. Together, as a branch, we are enthusiastic about providing opportunities to advance the cause of educational leadership in South Australia.

I'd like to take a moment to express my appreciation for the incredible work done by Warren Symonds, our former branch president, in his service to ACEL. His enthusiasm, good humour and commitment have been a tremendous asset, and it has been a true pleasure to work alongside and learn from him. As per ACEL's governance structure, Presidents are limited to two tenures in our positions, and Warren is to be commended for his outstanding service to ACEL.

This year, the ACEL SA branch has successfully launched a new Book Club initiative. This  provides an opportunity for members to gather over a pub meal, engage in enlightening discussions with colleagues, and delve into topical books related to education. The best part is, there's no pressure if you haven't had the chance to read the book; all are welcome to join the conversation. Our next Book Club meeting is scheduled for January 18 at 2 pm at the Walkers Arms Hotel.

Additionally, mark your calendars for our upcoming Term 4 Hot Topic event on November 16, starting at 5:15 pm, hosted at Immanuel College in the ICOSA function room. We have a fascinating presentation by Dr Brendan Bentley and Connor Kenneally on augmented reality and cognitive load in the classroom. These events are invaluable for professional development and networking.

Thank you for your continued support and participation of ACEL SA.

Kind regards,
